Recognition of my niche

July 01, 20242 min read

I am the coach for people with ADHD seeking career advancement.

I have recently recognized my niche and now I’m owning it. My first clients have been friends and referrals by friends who know my skillset. Most of them came to me for career advancement, including leadership development, and most of them have ADHD. I’ve helped them achieve great successes, and I’ve had a lot of fun doing it. This is my niche!

This niche is natural for me because my absolute favorite thing about owning my restaurant was developing people. Two and a half years after closing the restaurant, my husband and I are still receiving thank yous from our former employees.

One of my kids has been diagnosed with ADHD. The other one doesn’t have a diagnosis, but he’s definitely neurodivergent. As for myself, I am almost certainly ADHD and I’m considering seeking a diagnosis. As I’ve been studying ADHD to help my clients, I realized that my idiosyncrasies fit the pattern.

I asked my Sensei, “Do you think I might have ADHD?”

He said, “You mean, you don’t have a diagnosis already? Yes, I totally have to teach you as if you have ADHD.”

I have developed a large toolkit from things that have worked for myself, my kids, my friends, and my clients. This includes my developmentally disabled clients from my previous career; the tools I learned from them are really good tools that can work for anyone. I also have gamification tools from my self-defense soft skills training and teaching. The example I frequently use is that mindfulness is the same skill as really good situational awareness but used in a different way. I can tell you how to do mindfulness or I can teach you fun games that develop the same skill. Do you want an explanation, or do you want to play fun games? I want to have fun!

Of course, the tools are only “good” if they work for you. I can help you personalize a toolkit that’s right for you.

Over the next month or so, I’ll be transitioning my social media and my website to reflect my newly realized niche. Watch this space for tools and information about living an enhanced life with ADHD.
