Have you ever experienced Hyperfocus? What did it feel like?
Most people describe it as laser-like focus: intense, consuming, and hard to control. It can feel like a superpower but often lacks harmony, pulling you out of tune with your own needs.
Have you ever experienced Flow State? What did it feel like?
Most people describe it as laser-like focus: in the Zone, in tune, and fully connected. It feels effortless, with mind, body, and actions moving in harmony.
What are the differences between the two?
The main difference is Flow’s sense of harmony: being in tune and at one with everything, which allows you to feel focused and in control.
What if you could transform your Hyperfocus into Flow State?
A big part of my ADHD career advancement/leadership development coaching is helping my clients guide their Hyperfocus into Flow turning it into a strength they can rely on. While recently re-reading The Art of Peace by Morihei Ueshiba (the founder of Aikido), I came across a passage that perfectly described Flow: the feeling of being at one with everything.
What does it take to transform Hyperfocus into Flow?
It starts with the Four Keys:
Curiosity: Spark your curiosity to convince your brain the task is worth hyperfocus.
Self-Awareness: Notice when hyperfocus is helping you versus when it’s pulling you off track.
Resilience: Develop strategies for recovering quickly when distractions or setbacks disrupt your Flow.
Boundaries: Protect your focus by limiting distractions, managing your energy, and prioritizing tasks that align with your goals.
Going back to the quote by Morihei Ueshiba, do you think he was talking about Flow State?
When have your mind and environment worked in harmony?
What helps you stay in tune with your work or goals?
When have you felt at one with everything?
When mind and body are in harmony, focus becomes effortless and fulfilling. Flow State bridges the gap between your potential and your goals, helping you show up fully and achieve what matters most.
Please share your thoughts and experiences with any of the reflective questions I’ve asked. I’d love to hear them!
