Sometimes self-care is selfish

June 29, 20241 min read

"Self-care is not Selfish.

But what if sometimes self-care is selfish and that's OK.

Sometimes self-care is doing the work of becoming your favorite version of you.

That's going to upset some people, and that's OK."

Self-care isn't specifically one of my 7 Keys for Living an #EnhancedLife, but it strongly implied and encouraged by all of the Keys, especially #Resilience, #Boundaries, #Relationships, #HealthAndWellness, and #JoyAndFun.

This quote came from a conversation with a good friend. I was on a "self-care is not selfish" kick, and he asked me, "What if self-care is selfish, and that's OK."

"Oh snap!" I said, "You're right!"

From that conversation I wordsmithed this quote, and he's OK with me taking full credit.

I've posted other versions of this quote before. In earlier iterations I said, "your preferred version of you", but I've since changed that phrase in my lexicon to "your favorite version of you." To me it sounds just a little more user-friendly.
